Sump Pump Failure in Merrimack After a Storm

SERVPRO Can Extract Storm Damage
Basement flooding is a common threat in New Hampshire, even in normal weather. With the ability of rain to enter your basement, it may need a sump pump.
Failure of a sump pump can happen at almost any time. It is important to maintain it just like any other item in your Merrimack home to prevent flood damage. SERVPRO doesn't typically repair or replace a failed sump pump, but we do have a 24-hour, experienced response team to restore your basement to a clean, dry state after the worst happens.
Basement Flooding Cleanup
We start by bringing in one or more pumps from our equipment inventory to remove standing water. If the power has been interrupted, technicians can bring a generator as a temporary energy source. If the task is going to be extensive, we provide a generator truck for continuous support. Once the water is pumped out, our inspector examines the floor and walls for structural problems that need to be fixed before moving on.
Next, technicians remove everything from the basement. They help you determine what is salvageable and what needs to be thrown out. The final decision rests with you and your insurance adjuster. Once that is completed, the response team sets up air movers and exhaust fans to begin drying out the surrounding air, walls, floor, and trim. If the air is extremely humid, we deploy dehumidifiers to get a quicker response.
Water Damage Extraction
If the floor is carpeted, our technicians draw out the trapped water with commercial-grade water extractors. To dry out the damp fibers and the pad underneath (if there is one), they deploy specialized heaters designed to dry fibers and pads completely without harming either one. The specific conditions of the flooding will dictate if these flooring materials can be salvaged.
Before we arrive, there are two things you need to do; stay out of the basement and make sure the power is off. If the water covers the electrical outlets, there is a significant risk of being electrocuted once power is restored if you are standing ankle-deep, trying to sort through the damaged property. Your main circuit breaker should be on the outside of your home and marked. If it is not, or if you are not sure, wait for our response team to arrive and take care of it.
The effects of a sump pump failing are expensive and messy. Clean-up requires a professional restoration team to make sure everything is done quickly and efficiently. If you need our services, SERVPRO of Merrimack is here to help. Call us today at (603) 262-9293 to start the process.
